With its chairman Sir Desmond Glazebrook decisively in charge (mostly of "rice puddings" - apparently bankers' jargon for high rice buildings) the bank weathered many a storm, including the infamous Phillips Berenson scandal (the Lehman Brothers of its day).<BR/><BR/>The Financial Times records the bank's tumultuous history, but I can't understand it - it's full of economic theory.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
